The Master of the Worshipful Company of Coopers recently visited Theakstons Brewery in Masham, North Yorkshire, with a group including fellow Liveryman, family, and friends. The purpose was to personally craft a cask under the guidance of Journeyman Cooper Euan Findlay.
After a brewery tour and breakfast, the group learned coopering techniques and each built their own Firkin-sized cask. The process was physically demanding yet rewarding. The trip concluded with local dining and the enjoyment of Theakstons ales. The Master, the first in over a century to make his own cask, encourages all Freemen and Liverymen of the Coopers' Company to take part in this unique and fulfilling experience.
