Coopers & City of London Police Mounted Branch Affiliation
The Worshipful Company of Coopers formally celebrated its affiliation with the City of London Police Mounted Branch at a ceremony at Mansion House on 10th September 2026.
The ceremony marked an important milestone in a relationship that has developed over several years and provided an opportunity for representatives of both organisations to come together and look ahead to the next stage of the partnership.
A particular highlight was the presence of Police Horses Primrose and Douglas, whose calm and friendly presence attracted considerable attention from members of the public outside Mansion House. Their presence demonstrated the distinctive connection that mounted policing creates between the police and the community.
The affiliation has grown from a relationship nurtured over time, with Court Assistant Alan Roberts playing an important role in developing the connection and helping bring the vision of a formal affiliation to life. The Coopers’ former mascot, Ajax, also provides a natural link between the Company and the Mounted Branch, reflecting a shared connection with horses, tradition and service. Freeman Amita Chohan will continue to nurture this relationship.
The certificate was accepted on behalf of the City of London Police by Superintendent Jess Wynne, who subsequently described the ceremony as an important milestone and expressed his intention to build a strong and enduring partnership with the Coopers. The affiliation is about much more than the formal ceremony. It creates opportunities for members of the Company and the Mounted Branch to build relationships, support community initiatives, engage younger people and develop meaningful joint activities. The certificate marks the beginning; the next step is to give the affiliation practical life through shared experiences, activity and friendship.
